They then swung across to Louisiana, where they gunned down convenience-store cashier Patsy Byers, paralysing her from the neck down. Darras and Edmondson were standard American brats who loved their hard drugs and their R-rated movies. In the eight years since its release, Stone's picture has been confidently linked to at least eight murders - from Barras and Edmondson's wild ride, through the Texan kid who decapitated a classmate because he 'wanted to be famous, like the natural born killers', to the pair of Paris students who killed three cops and a taxi driver and were later discovered to have the film's poster on their bedroom wall. year and 16.2% in the first half of 2005.

Now Maxim has had an average of 4,530 monitored free distribution copies lopped off its original figure by the ABC, after 'distribution problems' that broke the industry body's guidelines.

The copies account for 2% of the original circulation figure for the period, which will now stand at 185,908.

Maxim remains in third place in the men's monthly sector, behind IPC's Loaded and Emap's FHM.

The problem with Maxim's figure was brought to the attention of Dennis Publishing during the final audit of the ABC figure and it has 'been working closely with the ABC to reissue the figure' ever since, the publisher said today in a statement."<div Two decades ago sales were at a heady one million-plus, but declines have accelerated in recent times - the current sale of 456,524 is little more than half that of 10 years ago.

In an era that's seen the women's weeklies sector segment with the launch of celebrity and real-life titles, appealing to younger women, Woman's problem is that it is still perceived as a throwback to the 1950s lifestyle, a housewives' help-guide to raising a family, cooking and knitting.

While a weekly that still sells more than 400,000 is not to be scoffed at, Woman and its 'traditional' weekly sisters seem long overdue a make-over. today as circulation figures revealed that every daily regional paper in Britain recorded a sales decline in the second half of 2005.

From the Yorkshire Post to the Western Morning News, local titles all lost sales in the six-month period compared with the first half of the year.

The only daily regional newspaper in the UK to record a sales rise between July and December was the Northern Ireland morning paper the Irish News, which increased sales by a modest 0.1%.

In the Sunday market there were also declines across the board, with just one exception in the UK - again in Northern Ireland, where sales at the Sunday Journal went up 8.4%.

Among the heavy fallers was the Birmingham Mail, which last year oversaw a much-heralded return to focusing on local news. The Mail's circulation fell by 9.6% to just over 83,100, with the comparison even worse on a year-on-year basis.

Its morning counterpart and Trinity Mirror stablemate, the Birmingham Post, saw its sales fall by 6.7% to 13,000."

MediaGuardian.co.uk | Broadcast | Corrie cleared of racism after 500 complaints

MediaGuardian.co.uk | Broadcast | Corrie cleared of racism after 500 complaints: "Corrie cleared of racism after 500 complaints

Dominic Timms
Monday February 20, 2006

The media regulator today cleared the use of the term 'poor white trash' by an Asian character in Coronation Street, despite receiving complaints from over 500 viewers.

Ofcom said while the term had 'obvious racist overtones', its use on the ITV soap was justified by the context and could be used to describe 'those from a lower socio-economic group'.

More than 500 viewers complained that the term, used by Jayesh, one of the Asian characters, was racist and unacceptable."

MediaGuardian.co.uk | Media | The gender gap

MediaGuardian.co.uk | Media | The gender gap: "The gender gap

'Where are the women?' is the burning question

Stephen Pritchard
Thursday February 16, 2006

Women - half the world's population - are barely present in the faces seen, the voices heard and the opinions expressed in the world's media. It revolutionised magazine publishing in the UK - and the US, when Dennis took the 'lad's mag' there in the form of Maxim.
